Swimmers are back training at the Lara pool and have settled in well. We had a cool start to November with swimmers and coaches braving the conditions, but the weather improved as the month went on.
November has been a very busy month as always. The morning squad training sessions have been extended. Seniors – Monday to Friday 5.45am to 7.30am. Step-up squad is being offered three mornings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays 5.45am to 7.00am. Afternoon sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 5.15pm to 6.15pm.
Swimmers participated in four swimming competitions this month. Geelong Open, City by the Bay, GCO Ballarat and the Lara Swimming Carnival. We had a fantastic attendance by the Lara Swimmers at the November competitions, especially the Lara Carnival and it was a huge success due to a combined effort from families and committee members giving up their time to help out with the many tasks that needed to be done. Well done to all.
At these meets swimmers may have different objectives, eg: It may be their first time competing at a local carnival, enjoying swimming and having fun, to achieve a PB in a stroke, they may be attempting to qualify for Country and/or State times. Some have achieved their first Country and State times. Qualifying times are getting faster each year, as the standard of swimming is getting higher. During these swim meets the Lara swimmers behaved well, spoke to their coaches for race plans and feedback, gave 100% and had lots of fun racing, achieving PBs and spending time with their friends. (also well done to swimmers, lots of fresh fruit and healthy lunches and snacks).
To achieve qualifying times for Countries, States and Nationals swimmers must commit to their training, goals and plans. Train – (2 times a week) getting started and having some fun, (three times a week) will maintain some fitness and technique, (four times a week) will start to see some improvement, (four times a week and more) will get results.
We are coming up to the festive time of the year, so any families who may be going away please see Kathy if you would like some training programs to do while you are away to keep up your swimming fitness. Make sure you give me a little notice, so I can speak to you and prepare a program that suits.
